Looking Back & Looking Ahead

Visiting the Tribe

December 2018 was a turning point in the KINdom. While we’ve been working with a handful of tribes for over a year now, we actually haven’t met them until recently. Seeing the artisans creating meticulous handwoven textiles, manually casting recycled products, and painstakingly hand-bead some accessories were so awe-inspiring. So much labor and love goes into each piece. Experiencing their craft, eating their food, and sleeping in the same huts where some still live create an inspiring and visceral urge to continue purchasing responsibly-made and environmentally-friendly products. We are all supporting and encouraging the preservation of their cultural traditions, ensuring they be passed down to the next generation.

November 2018 Recap

Thank you to those who participated and shopped during our two November sales events! We donated a portion of our proceeds to support veterans during Veteran’s Day Weekend through the Wounded Warrior Project. In addition, Thanksgiving week sales benefited victims of the Woolsey fire as we donated part of our proceeds to the Ventura County Community Foundation. The world is a better place because of you, and we thank those who purchased KINdom products during those times!

Fair Trade Fashion Show

Also in November, we participated in (hopefully not the last) Fair Trade Fashion Show and Marketplace for the first time. Although it was only a one-day event, the people we connected with - like-minded customers and vendors - was well-worth the involvement, giving hope and light in the struggle and movement for sustainable goods and responsible manufacturing, which is KINdom’s mission. There were speeches from sustainability influencers such as Patrick Duffy (who also hosted the event), child advocates Violet Affleck (Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s daughter) and Lauren Varnell, and the highlight of them all, an inspiring talk from sustainability leader and founder of Fashion Revolution, Orsola de Castro:
